Sisters Damaris and Renee Coulter worked in hospitality for most of their lives, biting their tongues when they disagreed with the way things were run. Now, at their very own Coco’s Cantina, already a K Road icon, the only rule is to “Be Kind” and to ensure everybody is warmly welcomed. Despite producing some of the absolute best Italian cuisine in Auckland, Coco’s Cantina is much more than a restaurant, Damaris and Renee run Coco’s to be a community. A difficult but ultimately more rewarding option, Coco’s Cantina sources it’s produce and ingredients from a multitude of small and local suppliers, instead of opting for one of the big companies. Customers are all friends and staff are family, and the sisters ensure that everyone knows where to draw the line about the customer always being right. They are currently working on a project called The Realness, which is a source to guide people to local owner operated eateries, and will eventually extend to locally owned clothing and other goods also.
