Kelmarna Community Gardens
Established in 1981, Kelmarna is a city farm and organic community garden tucked away in suburban Grey Lynn. The 4.5 acre haven includes chickens, vegetable gardens, a pony, young cattle, a food forest, beehives, worm farms, compost making, and native trees and flax, and is open to anyone who wants to explore it. Adrian Roche manages the gardens alongside a team of volunteers and members of the community. On weekdays, the onsite shop is open to buy freshly-picked produce, flowers, seedlings and eggs, and you might even get to watch your veggies being picked or help choose them. Whether you wish to get dirty volunteering in the garden, buy some fresh veggies for your dinner or just have a peaceful walk, Kelmarna is an inner city gem that continues to feed many Aucklander’s souls and bellies.
