When Carter Were’s friend, Sophie of Muck Floral found her dream spot to set up shop, Carter took the opportunity to join her in the Grey Lynn corner with a concept; to make bread and serve simple, good food. She makes two types of bread, organic seeded sourdough and organic sprouted grain bread, both of which promptly sell out daily. A simple but mouthwatering menu changes regularly depending on what’s in season, offering toast, filter coffee and occasionally the delicious l0cal Duck Island Ice Cream, which Carter rolls into choc tops. She sources ingredients locally when possible and supports other small businesses like herself. Carter has an army of loyal customers and friends alike, the store has the feeling of community meeting spot, with friends bumping into each other and catching up on the latest news while enjoying their favourite toast.
